Racing
Team Objective:
Portobello Bicycle Racing was created to promote a fun and supportive atmosphere for amateur racers and their development in the sport. Portobello desires to create a strong, cohesive team with a focus on fun, training and racing.
Sponsors:
We are happy to promote our sponsors, who also happen to be our friends and partners in business. Please support the following local businesses that help support Portobello Bicycle Racing.
B-Line Sustainable Urban Delivery
B-Line delivers all the great organic produce we order from Organically Grown Company. They haul hundreds of pounds of cargo for all types of businesses on their work trikes. If you need an innovative solution to your business’ inter-city freight needs, or are interested in advertising your company on their eye-catching trikes, contact Kathryn or Franklin at info@b-linepdx.com
Tempo Cycling & Pilates Studio
Tempo is located just down the street from Portobello in between SE 12th and 11th on Market. They offer many types of Pilates classes and Spinning and coaching for cycling. Portobello Bicycle Racing team members receive coaching from Kirk Whiteman, three time World Champion track racer. Chef Aaron has also just started taking Pilates classes with Jenny Whiteman, and is seriously hooked.
The nice folks at A Better Cycle have been generous enough to sponsor our team. Need to get a Swedsh bottom bracket? An internally geared hub overhaul. Motorcross pants? No problem! We love ABC, not only for their great staff, attention to detail, and all-around goodness, but they’re collectively run as well. Which is super cool. Thanks to Rachel, Ian, Clinton, Aaron, Ben, and Tim!

Field Roast Grain Meat Company
For the absolute best in vegan “meats” look no further than Field Roast. At the Trattoria, we use many of the Seattle based company’s products, especially their White Truffle Pate and Chao Cheese. Field Roast has kindly offered to help fuel the team up this year. We are incredibly excited and proud to have such a great sponsor from a great vegan NW business.

Charlie Wicker is roasting up some wicker-ed beans on the ole’ Diedrich roaster in the basement. Along with Cellar Door Coffee, Charlie shares the same space as Portobello on 11th and Harrison. He sources his beans from Cafe Femenino, a social program for women in Bolivia, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico and Peru. All the beans come from women-owned farms. Charlie also donates a portion of his sales to the Cafe Femenino Foundation. Did we mention the coffee rocks? Come by our tent at the next race to taste some yumminess.

Hair of The Dog Brewing Company
What can we say about Hair of The Dog? Ridiculously delicious beer. Adam over at Hair of the Dog seems to really specialize in complex, unique brews. At the trattoria, we serve three beers: Fred, with 10 types of hops and 10% alcohol; Ruth, a light and refreshing American ale; and, Adam, a recreation of an old-world German beer. We’ll be enjoying plenty of Hair of the Dog come next cyclocross season.

Located in the nation’s only vegan mini-mall, Scapegoat tattoo is the first choice for many team members for their tattoo work…Marc, Aaron, Jim, and Jon for starters. The folks at Scapegoat do amazing work. It’s worth stopping by Scapegoat just to see the amazingly beautiful shop they put together over there on 12th and Stark. We were really happy to have Brian Wilson, the owner of Scapegoat, design our racing kits, as well. Thanks Brian!

Jude at Epic builds fantasy wheelsets for everyone from racers to commuters. If you can dream it, Jude can build it. We’re already getting excited about some Chris King ‘cross wheels for next year…and not gluing tubulars ever again! Thanks Jude!
